A new dawn, a new priest! Welcome Rev. Dr. Bolmax Fidelis Pereira

By Nathaniel Nunes

1st June, 2019 marks a special day for our parish as we happily welcomed Rev. Dr. Bolmax Fidelis Pereira as our Parish Priest and bid a warm farewell to our much loved outgoing Parish Priest Rev. Dr. José António Eufemiano de Jesus Miranda.

Fr. Miranda served our parish for more than 8 years. He contributed in a big way in stabilizing the parish and its various associations, starting the Family Day programme, the Small Christain Community and actively overseeing the installation of St. Joseph Vaz’s statue in the church campus.

"Never waste anything in life. Always believe in the 3 R's. Reduce, Reuse and Refuse"

Fr. Miranda has always been a believer in never to waste things in life, be it talent, hard work or resources besides a firm proponent of the 3 R's, that is "Reduce, Reuse and Refuse". He will move as Chaplain at St. Sebastian's Chapel in Fontainhas, Panjim.

Fr. Bolmax was ordained as a priest in 2004. He has served in the parishes of Fatorda, Agassaim, Loutolim, Mapusa and most recently in Nerul.

"If you don’t have youth force the church is empty and lacking something."

His love for the environment persuaded him to pursue a Ph.D. in Botany with a special focus on Ecology and Environment through Jodhpur National University. His research involved studying the wetlands in Goa. He is currently a professor at St. Jose Vaz Science College, Cortalim.

Though he connects with every parishioner from the young to the old, Fr. Bolmax has a special connection with the youth and believes "If you don’t have youth force the church is empty and lacking something".

At the end of his first-ever Sunday mass at our parish, Fr. Bolmax felt that though there are many expectations initially, things will fall in place only with the contribution of all parishioners and the Chicalim Parish will become even more vibrant going forward.
