Bringing smiles: Visit to Old Age Home

On 8th December 2019, a Sunday, the Catechists along with our Parish Priest Fr. Bolmax, took our Confirmation and Pre-Confirmation children on a visit to the Old Age Home in our neighbouring village of Bogmalo.

We had previously spoken about the Old Age Home to the children and they were looking forward to this visit. After the Catechism class, the bus took us to Bogmalo. We were greeted with a smile by the inmates. The Children sat along with the old aged inmates in preparation for the Holy Mass. We could see the smile on the faces of the inmates when children were sitting alongside them. These children may have resembled their own grandchildren sitting with them for Holy Mass.

The Holy Mass was offered by Fr. Bolmax, out in the open with the sound of waves crashing on the beach and the heat of the sun above. The Catechists and children did the liturgy for the Holy Mass. After the conclusion of the Holy Mass, our children interacted with the inmates and spoke with them on their likes and dislikes, enquired about their health and well-being. Most of them said they were happy here, as they were well taken care off than they used to be at their own homes. This touched the children.

Others shared their experience with the children, a few of them sang songs and asked the children about their own likings. The Catechists served soup and snacks, so that the hunger remained at bay. Towards the end the children sought Blessings from the elders as they bid adieu to them.

This day must have been quite nostalgic day to the elderly residents and most importantly to the children who went home with lots of thoughts in their mind. Most of our children were feeling sad for these inmates but with a a sense of relief as they're been taken good care off over here.
