Raising our voices in praise of Jesus

By Nicole Nunes

A Sign of Hope

Christmas carols melodiously proclaim the good news of the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. This makes carolling an important aspect of Christmas tradition all over the world, including Goa.

These carols of good cheer, bring hope to millions all over the globe, of the immense love God has for us that - He sent His only Son to save us from ourselves.

True to tradition and to ring in the Advent season in Goa, carol singing competitions are held across the state.

The parishioners of St. Francis Xavier's Church, Chicalim had the unique opportunity this year to participate in two such joyous occasions, under the mentorship of our Parish Priest, Fr. Bolmax Pereira.

Taking Centre - Stage

The first carol singing event was held at Ravindra Bhavan in Baina, Vasco on the 15th of December, 2019. We presented the carols - “Bethlehem Xharant” (A Mangalorean carol rearranged by Fr. Bolmax Pereira) and “Ojap Koslem?”, to the accompaniment of the bongos, the keyboards and the violin.

We had yet another opportunity to present our vocal talents, when we were invited to take part in the 3rd All Goa Carol Singing Competition, organised by the Goa Social and Cultural Centre, at Garcia De Orta, Panjim on the 20th of December, 2019. The carols presented included “Ojap Koslem?” yet again followed by “Yeshu Masih” and own rendition of 'Mary Did You Know?' in the style of Pentatonix. This program was telecast on CCRTV, GCTV besides HCN.
